ALBANY TENNIS CLUB |
Leading the Game, Shaping the Future of Our Tennis Community
2024 Board Albany Tennis Club has a dedicated body of volunteers who bring their diverse and expert backgrounds in supporting the operation of the club and stewarding its financial and physical resources. |
GARY HENNING
President
I have been a member of the ATC for about a decade. I still have a day job in state government relations for MetLife. I came to the Capital District about 30 years ago, moving up here from New York City. And one of the best decisions I have ever made was to join the ATC.
ATC has become my "happy place." I go to the Club and forget about everything except having fun playing tennis with friends. While the red clay courts are an absolute treasure, the tennis community at ATC and the people there are even more special.
I want to continue serving on the Board to give back to the Club that has meant so much to me. I have been honored to serve as Vice President and head several initiatives undertaken this past year. The ATC remains the premier tennis facility in the Capital Region but remains the special tennis community that many of its members appreciate.
DAVID LA VOIE
Vice President
I have been a member of the ATC for the last two years and have played tennis locally for the past 25 years. My wife, Jeanne, and I have been married for over 25 years and have three children and six grandchildren.
I am a graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh (‘79) with degrees in Education and History. I have been a member of other boards and have held several leadership positions. For the past 30 years, I have owned an insurance practice specializing in employee group benefits. My organizational and communication skills, as well as my service experience, will be of value to the ATC.
STEVE ANGLE
Treasurer
I have been a member of the ATC for years and have played in many tennis events that the Club has held over time. I am also a long-term member of the USTA, participating in many of their leagues and tournaments.
I have been a Board member for two years and have agreed to be treasurer in the coming year. ATC is an incredible place to play tennis, and I'd like to continue to support the Club. The condition of the courts and the high level of use is a testament to the efforts of the members and the Board of Directors.
I am a past member of the Knickerbacker Playground Board of Directors in Troy, including president for 8 years, so I am familiar with how volunteer boards operate.
Professionally, I am a retired mechanical engineer with 20 years of experience in facilities operation and new construction projects at RPI and 8 years as a professional engineering consultant focusing on energy conservation in facilities. I have applied this experience to several infrastructure projects for the Club over these past two years.
THERESA CARY
Secretary
I have been involved with tennis in one way or another for more years than I care to admit. My USTA roles presently include being a player and member of the Eastern Grievance Appeals Committee and a certified USTA and ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) official.
Professionally, I worked for the State Education Department (SED) for over 35 years. My last position in SED was Assistant Director of Financial Administration.
I have served as the Board Secretary for the past three years. If elected, I would welcome the opportunity to work with the other ATC board members and our wonderful volunteers as we strive to continue improving our summer home on the "red dirt."
GARY CIMORELLI
Board Member
As a member of ATC for the past three years, I have been so impressed with the members and how well the facility is cared for by so many.
I was in education for 48 years as a high school mathematics teacher and Instructional Innovation Specialist. In both of those roles, I had to find creative ways for all of our students and faculty to learn the subject and technologies and, more importantly, embrace the art of becoming a lifelong learner. This challenge requires thinking outside the box and, at times, being disruptive to create change and innovation. I also have carpentry skills. So, when the need arises for repairs or improvements, I am here to help out in any way I can.
As you may have seen at this year's US Open, the quote "World's Healthiest Sport" was painted on the courts. I am a true believer in that statement as well. My goal as a board member would be to find ways to share the many reasons why this sport is the healthiest in the world with the ATC Community. I appreciate your support.
WENDI ENRIGHT
Board Member
I have been a member of the Albany Tennis Club for just two years, but I have found a tennis home. The courts are ideal, and the tennis arrangement is spectacular - but most importantly, everyone is incredibly nice. This Club is a special place.
Professionally, I am the Director of an online business and technology college, half-owner of an IT company, and half-owner of Albany Stadium Restaurant & Bar. Previously, I was an Executive Regional Manager with Sportime Tennis Clubs in Schenectady, Manhattan, Westchester, and Long Island.
I have played tennis since I was very young, eventually playing USTA and WTT as an adult. I would love to give back my time to Albany Tennis Club and sincerely appreciate your support.
MARC GERSTMAN
Board Member
I practiced environmental law for 35 years in New York State. I was proud to serve as Deputy Commissioner, General Counsel, and Executive Deputy Commissioner for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for many years. I also had a private practice in Albany where I represented community groups, municipalities, small businesses, and individuals who often needed guidance navigating multi-tiered and complicated compliance requirements.
The ATC is a unique community that allows players of all levels to enjoy the game. The social interactions offer significant benefits to our community. Continuing on the Board, I will dedicate my efforts to expanding opportunities to more members of the community at large. I was proud to be part of the 15-Love fundraiser this past summer and hope to strengthen our relationship with that organization. I have enjoyed contributing to the success of the ATC and helping navigate the financial challenges we will face in the years to come.
DAVID KLEIN
Board Member
I found my passion for tennis somewhat later in life and have been a member of the ATC for the last two seasons. It has been an overwhelmingly positive experience for me. I appreciate the friendly competition, the social rewards for interacting with other members and staff, and the superior condition of the clay courts and the Club overall.
This makes me want to give back by serving on the Board of directors. I am a novelist and writer by profession and have lived in Delmar for the past twenty-nine years, where my wife Harriet and I raised our two children.
BRUCE MCBRIDE
Board Member
I am excited to express my interest in remaining on the ATC Board of Directors. I have been a member since 2005 and am semi-retired after a 40+ year career in law enforcement and higher education administration.
I have had the privilege of serving as President these past two years, working with fellow board members to achieve many goals in membership recruitment, financial stability, infrastructure improvements, and personnel administration. The countless hours and effort they have invested in various projects and events demonstrate their dedication to the success of the ATC and the well-being of its members and staff.
We still have several projects underway, and I wish to continue contributing with fellow board members to address our upcoming fundraising and infrastructure projects.
Thank you very much for your consideration.
DAVID MOTTA
Board Member
Despite numerous challenges, the Albany Tennis Club finishes the 2024 season in good physical condition and is stable financially. As I made many direct and indirect contributions to this outcome, I’d like to stay on with these talented and dedicated Board members and support their work through the 2025 season.
Having been a member, though not continuously, for several decades, and a Board member for close to ten, I'm hopeful that I can contribute to the efforts ahead.
